Things were a little different last year as we experienced our second COVID summer. Below you'll see the details for 2021's programming, and soon we'll release details for what 2022 will look like.

Please check back here soon for updates!

  • work exclusively with TRI co-producers Allison Toffan & Juliana Kelly

  • 2 guest artist classes per track each week

  • separate technique and combo/choreography classes

  • reduced hours; this year's intensive runs 10am-4pm

  • limited class sizes; this year's classes will be capped to keep in line with health and safety regulations AND to offer dancers a more intimate educational experience

  • dancers wishing to attend the advanced track must apply via video submission

  • intention focused classes

  • historical tap dance footage

  • tap chats - group discussions on the who's, whats, and where's of today's International tap scene

  • improvisation - develop solid ideas & confidence

  • music theory, jazz form, and creating arrangements

  • professional development

  • live music session

Due to COVID-19, registration will be capped at 10 dancers per level per week. Following registration selling out, a waiting list will begin in the event that the government will allow us to increase capacity to our program.

Placement in intermediate vs advanced will be determined by age, experience, skill level and maturity. To best place dancers in a learning environment that best suits each student's respective aptitude, dancers planning to attend the advanced level must submit an audition video. Submission details are below. Due to varied experience, all participants will be challenged on a individual basis with regards to the material and class subject matter. We'll find the right challenges and balance for every dancer to ensure a well rounded and fulfilling experience. With limited class sizes, this year's intensive will be more intimate than ever before!

Closing up each week, dancers will experience a professional development session, including an audition for a scholarship to attend TRI 2022, as well as our highly anticipated live music session with some of Toronto's finest jazz musicians.

Dancers hoping to attend the advanced track must submit an audition video for approval before registration will be complete.

Please note: intermediate dancers are not required to submit, but must meet the age and experience requirements. No exceptions.

Our intensive is an excellent chance to collaborate and share with dancers from studios across the GTA - an integral part of tap dance culture we feel passionate to promote!

This opportunity has been built to create a multi-generational element of the Toronto Rhythm Initiative, providing youth with the inspiration to move forward with their development and expression within the art form - contributing to the future of the professional Canadian tap dance platform.
